Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The many conflicts that take place in Europe since the middle of the sixteenth century significantly affected the Spanish monarchy, who had to increase their military efforts. Throughout this work we approach the way to get large armies and we will see the problems arising from the fate of these soldiers, inside and outside the Iberian península. We'll see how we can categorize two types of military services, volunteers and obligatories, and as there are two types of recruitment, one direct and one indirect. As we shall see, the Crown applied both ways depending on the circumstances. In addition, we will focus on the operation of the various systems of recruitment and practice throughout the seventeenth century application. Finally we will focus on the logistics of the army, to check what the problems concerning the movement of troops were since men were recruited until they reached the front, focusing on the accommodation.
