Abstract:
Planar Chiral MetaMaterials structures, based on mutually twisted faces or conjugated faces, with C4 symmetry, may present high optical activity but low circular dichroism values. In this communication, an Asymmetric CMM structure with high circular dichroism is proposed. Due to its lack of C4 symmetry, the transmission coefficients depend on the incident wave polarization and display high transmission for one polarization but low transmission for the orthogonal one. The proposed structure is then used to improve the radiation characteristics of a microstrip antenna. Taking advantage of the circular dichroism of the asymmetric chiral structure, the polarization of the radiated field can be modified, transforming the linear polarization of a basic microstrip antenna into circular polarization.
