Los vínculos afectivos a lo largo de la vida y su influencia en la práctica enfermera

Abstract

La Teoría del Apego ha sentado las bases para un mejor conocimiento del desarrollo de los vínculos afectivos a lo largo de la vida (infancia, adolescencia y edad adulta). Tanto el inicio del apego humano como el modelo del mismo, que aparecen durante la vinculación temprana y primera infancia, influirán en las etapas posteriores del desarrollo de la personalidad. En este sentido, el modo en que el sistema de apego opere inicialmente determinará las diferencias individuales que surgirán a lo largo de la vida. El estudio de los denominados “modelos operantes internos”, además, nos permitirá analizar la continuidad e interrelación existente entre los diferentes aspectos de la personalidad en el ámbito de la afectividad y de la vinculación. Por otra parte, la consideración de la Teoría del Apego, en general, y del apego adulto, en particular, hará posible relacionar las características de los distintos estilos de apego con la actitud enfermera en el cuidado emocional del paciente. En este contexto, parece claro que ciertas actitudes clave en la práctica enfermera, como son la confianza, la empatía y la asertividad, serán puestas en práctica de modo distinto según el estilo de apego e historia afectiva del profesional enfermero que las aplique.

ABSTRACT: Attachment Theory has enhanced our knowledge about the development of affective links along the lifetime (childhood, adolescence, and adulthood). Both the beginning of the human attachment and its specific model, that appear during early bonding and early childhood, will influence later stages of the development of the personality. Accordingly, the way in which the attachment system operates initially will determine the individual differences that then arise throughout life. Besides, studying the so-called "internal working models" will allow us to analyze the continuity and interrelationship that exist among the different aspects of personality in the field of affectivity and bonding. Moreover, taking into account the Attachment Theory in general, and adult attachment in particular, will enable us to relate the characteristics of different styles of attachment to the nurse attitudes in the emotional care of the patient. In this context, it seems clear that certain key attitudes in nursing practice, such as trust, empathy, and assertiveness, will be implemented differently depending on attachment style and emotional history of the professional nursing who apply them.
