Intervención enfermera ante el niño con cáncer y su familia

Abstract

Cuando un niño es diagnosticado de cáncer, el concepto de enfermedad y muerte en la familia y la sociedad se agrava. El niño o adolescente se enfrenta a un nuevo estado de salud, en el que presentará una sintomatología distinta asociada a cada tumor, que junto a los procedimientos y tratamientos a los que se someterá, le alejarán de su vida cotidiana. La familia, realiza cambios en su rutina diaria para poder compatibilizarla con los ingresos hospitalarios que necesita el niño. El equipo multidisciplinar que acompaña al niño, al que pertenecen los profesionales de enfermería, han de centrar sus cuidados en un abordaje integral tanto al paciente como de su familia. Cuidar también a la familia del niño, produce una mejor adaptación al entorno lo cual favorecerá la restauración de la salud del paciente. Los profesionales de enfermería deben identificar las necesidades de los padres y de los niños en el entorno hospitalario, deberán conocer los apoyos que pueden recibir para poder proporcionarlos, dando respuesta a las necesidades a través de las intervenciones y las actividades más adecuadas a sus características.

ABSTRACT: When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the family and societies concept of illness and death worsens. The child or adolescent faces a reduced state of health, which presents different symptoms associated with each tumor. Furthermore, they move away from their daily lives due to the procedures and the course of treatments that they receive. The family changes their routine to coordinate with hospital admissions that the child needs. Multidisciplinary team, especially, nursing professionals accompanies the child in hospital, having to focus their care in an integrated approach on both the patient and his family. They also look after the family of the child, producing a better adaptation to the environment which will help the health of the patient improve. Nurses should identify the needs of supporting that parents and children receive in hospitals. Professionals must supply interventions and the appropriate activities in order to response those needs.
