Abstract:
ABSTRACT: In the current recession, we are suffering not only economical and social challenges, but even more importantly, an increasing lack of values. The need for change is becoming truly imperative. First and foremost, there is a need to train leaders to generate this change. In this paper we will consider whether our educational system and those involved in it are prepared to raise the students who will be responsible for fulfilling so many expectations and hopes, as the main participants in the creation of this new paradigm. We will define what being a leader means and discuss the role of the teacher as a model of leadership for the students. We will also reflect
upon the need of comprehensive education, and the development of emotional intelligence in order to educate competent citizens with the skills and values they will need to be able to lead, and improve, this better society that we so desire.
