Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The following dissertation aims to deepen into the study of fundamental concepts of History of Art such as the patronage and promotion of art, though the most important examples of kings and noble characters of the Spanish late Gothic. The objective is to analyze the case of Catholic Kings and Mendoza’s family by means of a comparison of their attitude towards art with the aim of decide the nature of their patronage. We have chosen both cases because of the magnitude acquired such as artistic promoter and their later influence, in the first case, and due to the political, social and cultural relevance of Mendoza’s family in that moment.
The study of the patronage in both cases will take place from the point of view of the architecture, due to the amplitude of their orders, also including diversity of artistic manifestations such as painting, sculpture or portable arts. Besides, this is the more visible art, best reflects the relationship between power and art, the importance of the buildings made and the art that best allows establish a conclusion about their use and application of different styles by different social groups: kings and nobles.
