Hogueras, demonios y brujas: significaciones del drama social de Zugarramurdi y Urdax

Abstract

RESUMEN: Reconsiderando el caso de la persecución de la brujería en Zugarramurdi y Urdax conocido en los inicios del siglo XVII a la luz de la producción historiográfica española e internacional sobre la brujomanía y la caza de brujas conocida en la Europa del momento, esta investigación examina nuevas evidencias documentales y evalúa la vigencia presente de las interpretaciones sobre la caza de brujas en España y la significación histórica e historiográfica del emblemático caso de Zugarramurdi.

ABSTRACT: Rethinking ofthe witch craze Spanish case of Zugarramurdi and Urdax known by the Inquisition court of Logroño in the beginning of the 17th century and doing it within the framework of Spanish and international historiographical approaches on the European early modern witch hunts, this research analyses new historical evidences and evaluates the present vigour of current main scientific interpretations about the features of Spanish early modern witch hunts.As a result of that, it offers some reflections on the historical and historiographical meaning of the emblematic case of Zugarramurdi.
