La cultura en la época del franquismo en Cantabria de 1960 a 1070 : la asociación cultural Prometeo

Abstract

ABSTRACT: In 1966 there was a very important historical event in Francoist Spain. Responding to an ever wider demand a new cultural environment, the regime signed the Law of Associations that would allow henceforth a greater range of speeches and political forms. In this context born “el Desarrollismo”. In it we can find the sporadic appearance of numerous cultural associations. A generation raised away from the civil war, more intellectual, advancing step by step in the Spanish society. Torrelavega is an example of how a small town is becoming an important industrial center, all in a reduced time of just 20 years (from 1950-1970). This paper will explain, first, as economic development generally occurs in Spain, and more specifically in Torrelavega. It is very necessary to emphasize the latter, since it would be impossible to understand how “Prometeo” is created without seeing its context. Also we mention the aforementioned contradiction between the old discourse of Franco and the new cultural discourse.
