Población y usos del suelo en los espacios periurbanos de Santander

Abstract

ABSTRACT Throughout the last century the geographical sciences have developed a rich terminology for the investigation of the peri-urban areas, which shows the interest of this science to describe, understand and diagnose the new phenomena and changes in their societies. It is necessary to say that the conflict, vulnerability and dependence are words that define perfectly the peri-urban areas, where takes place a constant battle between the rural world and the urban world, guided by the standards of an increasingly influential world market that men are still learning to control. This work represents a study of the characteristics and forms that these processes of periurbanization have left in the peri-urban areas of Santander by the analysis of the socioeconomic environment and the land uses of these areas.
