Mujeres y profesión médica en Cantabria : experiencias de las primeras colegiadas del siglo XX

Abstract

En este trabajo se ha realizado una investigación sobre las primeras médicas colegiadas en Cantabria. Partiendo de la base establecida por Rodrigo Franco Solar en su trabajo “Las transformaciones en la profesión médica: análisis de género. Cantabria, 1898-1998”, se seleccionaron las primeras 20 colegiadas con el objetivo de estudiar las características principales de su acceso a la profesión médica. Así, se utilizaron los expedientes conservados en el archivo del Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Cantabria, a fin de recabar información sobre ellas y describir el contexto profesional en el que se desenvolvieron. Los datos obtenidos, así como el análisis de los mismos, están recogidos en la primera parte del trabajo. En una segunda parte recogemos el testimonio personal de tres médicas colegiadas entre los años 69 y 77. Con ello buscamos contribuir a recuperar las experiencias de las primeras generaciones de mujeres que ejercieron en Cantabria. Para contrastar la diversidad de experiencias hemos seleccionado médicas, ya jubiladas, que han desarrollado trayectorias profesionales diferentes en los ámbitos de la especialización hospitalaria, de la atención primaria, y del mundo académico y de gestión sanitaria. En conjunto, el objetivo no es otro que el de arrojar luz sobre un tema del cual apenas hay datos disponibles como es el ambiente de las primeras médicas de Cantabria.

This thesis has conducted a research on the first collegiate physician women in Cantabria. Starting off the basis established by Rodrigo Franco in his work " Transformations of the medical profession: a gender analysis. Cantabria 1898-1998", we selected the first 20 collegiate women with the objective of studying their medical profession access’ main characteristics. The preserved records at the College of Physicians of Cantabria were used, in order to recollect information about them and to describe the professional context in which they worked. The data obtained and the posterior analysis, are exposed in the first part of this work. In a second part, we collect the testimony, in the form of personal interview, of three physician women collegiated between 1969 and 1977. With that, we aim to contribute recovering the experiences of the physician women’s first generations that worked on Cantabria. To make some contrast the diversity of experiences, we selected already retired physician women who have developed different career paths in the field of hospital specialization, primary care and the academia and health management. Overall, the goal is not other than to shed light on a subject in which there is little data available as is the atmosphere of the first physician women in Cantabria.
