Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 : de la teoría a la práctica

Abstract

La diabetes mellitus tipo 2 supone uno de los retos prioritarios para nuestro sistema sanitario. Su elevada prevalencia, así como su alta morbimortalidad y costes económicos, unidos al hecho de que se trata una enfermedad prevenible hacen que las intervenciones orientadas a su prevención y tratamiento en estadios precoces sean fundamentales. El profesional de enfermería de Atención Primaria tiene por tanto un papel esencial en la detección precoz y en la prevención de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2, promoviendo hábitos de vida saludable en aquellos pacientes de riesgo, y educando en la gestión y automanejo de la enfermedad cuando ésta ya se ha instaurado. El presente documento pretende describir las diferentes intervenciones de enfermería que se llevan a cabo en la prevención y tratamiento de la diabetes mellitus desde la consulta de Atención Primaria.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 represents one of the main challenges for our health system. Its high prevalence, morbi-mortality and economic costs, coupled with the fact that it is a preventable disease make interventions oriented to prevention and treatment in early stages a fundamental subject. Primary Health Care nursing professional has an essential role in the early detection and prevention of diabetes mellitus type 2, promoting healthy lifestyles in those patients at risk, and educating management and self-management of the disease when it has already been established. This document is intended to describe the different nursing interventions carried out in the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus from Primary Health Care consultation.
