Dificultades en el aprendizaje del lenguaje algebraico en alumnos de 15/16 años en Cantabria

Abstract

RESUMEN En este trabajo se indaga en el significado que los alumnos en su etapa final de las ESO dan al lenguaje algebraico. Se profundiza en particular en el significado que los alumnos dan a las letras en diferentes contextos. En las conclusiones del estudio se observa que los alumnos tienen menos dificultades en contextos donde la letra puede pensarse como un objeto concreto, mientras que muestran una enorme dificultad a la hora de manipular expresiones algebraicas. Esto les resulta especialmente complicado cuando las expresiones combinan letras y números. Además se aprecia claramente la reticencia a considerar que una misma letra pueda tener valores diferentes, o que letras diferentes puedan tener el mismo valor

ABSTRACT This paper investigates the meaning that students give to algebraic language in their last year of Secondary education. In particular, the project focuses on the meaning that students give to letters in different contexts. The conclusions drawn from the investigation are that students have less difficulty in contexts where the letter can be thought as a concrete object, and that they show enormous difficulties when simplifying algebraic expressions. It is also appreciated that students are reticent to consider that the same letter can have different values or that different letters can have the same value
