Limitaciones en la medicación en la infancia : el niño como huérfano terapéutico

Abstract

Los tratamientos en edades pediátricas se han topado desde siempre con grandes limitaciones. La controversia ética y moral ligada a la participación de menores de edad en ensayos clínicos supone el motivo principal. Pero también la falta de disposición, relacionada con una baja rentabilidad económica, por parte de la industria farmacéutica para invertir en el desarrollo de fármacos seguros para los niños, se suma a lo anterior y agrava el problema, obteniéndose como resultado la situación actual en la que nos encontramos. Tratamientos compasivos, indicaciones de medicamentos fuera de ficha técnica (off-label), y prácticas terapéuticas que a diario se emplean sin que un estudio científico oficial las respalde y asegure su efectividad convierten a los niños en huérfanos terapéuticos.

The ethical controversy and morality tied to the participation of minors in clinical tests supposes the principal motive. But also the lack of disposition, related to low economic profitability, on the part of the pharmaceutical industry to invest in the development of sure medicaments for the children, adds to the previous one and aggravates the problem, there being obtained like proved the current situation in which we are. Compassive treatments, indications of medicines out of specification sheet (off-label), and therapeutic practices that daily are used without a scientific official study them endorses and assures his efficiency turn the children into therapeutic orphans.
