Los temporales costeros en Cantabria: caracterización e impactos sobre el territorio

Abstract

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este trabajo es la caracterización e impactos de los temporales costeros en Cantabria a lo largo del s. XX. Para ello, se han combinado datos instrumentales, procedentes tanto de la boya Bilbao-Vizcaya como del modelo ERA-20C, y datos documentales, extraídos de las noticias publicadas por periódicos de ámbito regional y nacional. Los resultados muestran que la mayoría de los temporales ocurren en invierno. Su evolución revela una tendencia ascendente, que entra en conflicto con la de las situaciones atmosféricas que los producen. Finalmente, la prensa también ofrece evidencias de cambios en el tipo y magnitud de los impactos, en relación con la progresiva urbanización del espacio costero.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this work is the characterization and impacts of the coastal storms upon Cantabria during the 20th century. In order to accomplish this objective, instrumental data from the Bilbao-Vizcaya buoy and from the ERA-20C database, have been combined with documental information extracted from the news reported by regional and national newspapers. Results show that most of the storms occur during winter, and their temporal evolution along the 20th shows an increasing trend, which is in opposition to the evolution of the atmospheric situations which developed them. Finally, documental information also shows evidences of changes in typology and magnitude of the impacts, linked to the progressive urbanization of the coastal spaces.
