La educación de las mujeres cristianas en el Bajo Imperio (ss. IV-V)

Abstract

RESUMEN Aunque los estudios de género comenzaron a imponerse con fuerza a partir del siglo pasado, aún hoy sabemos relativamente poco de la situación de la mujer en épocas pretéritas, principalmente debido a que la Historia no sólo la han escrito los vencedores, sino más bien los hombres victoriosos. La Antigüedad no constituye ninguna excepción a la norma y, a pesar de los avances en este campo, desconocemos mucho todavía sobre la situación de la mujer en las sociedades del Mediterráneo Antiguo de los primeros siglos de la era. El paisaje documental de que disponemos es en su mayoría masculino, sobre todo en una sociedad tan patriarcal como lo fue la romana. En este trabajo abordamos la educación de la mujer cristiana en la Antigüedad Tardía, lo que nos ayudará a ubicarla y a comprender mejor su lugar en la sociedad del Bajo Imperio.

ABSTRACT Although gender studies began to impose tackles from the last century, still we know relatively little about the situation of women in earlier times, mainly because of that history not only have been written by the victors, but rather by men victorious. Antiquity is no exception to the rule and, despite advances in this field, much still unknown about the situation of women in ancient Mediterranean societies of the early centuries of the era. The documentary landscape we have is mostly male, especially in such a patriarchal as was the Roman society. In this paper we address the education of the Christian Roman woman in Late Antiquity, which will help us to locate and better understand their place in the society of the empire.
