¿Es rentable ser Erasmus?

Abstract

RESUMEN: El programa Erasmus, actualmente ERASMUS+, consiste en un plan educativo incorporado en los estados de la Unión Europea que tiene como objetivo facilitar la movilidad académica de estudiantes y profesores entre tales estados. Este programa fue creado en 1987, sus siglas provienen de las palabras European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. Este acrónimo fue creado en honor a Erasmo de Rotterdam. El programa es de disponibilidad absoluta para todos los estudiantes de enseñanza superior, así como, para aquellas personas que vayan a realizar prácticas laborales, independientemente de cuál sea la carrera cursada o la duración de ésta. Actualmente el programa está presente en más de 2000 instituciones académicas en 33 países, pero es España el país con mayor movilidad de estudiantes entre todos los miembros (las salidas representan un 15% del total de los estudiantes Erasmus). Durante el curso 2013/2014, 39.249 estudiantes realizaron sus estudios en el extranjero gracias a la beca, de los cuales alrededor de 33.500 eran estudiantes cursando sus estudios, mientras que el resto eran estudiantes realizando prácticas en empresas. Los requisitos para ser Erasmus son escasos, ya que en España solamente es necesario tener aprobado el primer curso de la carrera que se esté cursando y acreditar el nivel de idioma exigido en cada destino. Pero la experiencia de ser Erasmus va mucho más allá de un simple año cursando tus estudios lejos de tu universidad. Para muchas personas ofrece la posibilidad de conocer por primera vez países que antes no conocía, descubrir y mezclarse con culturas completamente diferentes, es decir, Erasmus aporta una serie de ventajas socioculturales que difícilmente puede aportar cualquier otro tipo de actividad. Por ello, durante el desarrollo del trabajo trataremos de unir los dos párrafos anteriores, juntando todas las cifras importantes que explican cómo funciona el programa Erasmus con aquellos datos que resultan más abstractos y que son más difíciles de medir, pero que sin duda tienen un peso muy importante a la hora de decidir si la experiencia resulta rentable o no.

ABSTRACT: The Erasmus program (ERASMUS+ nowadays) is an educative plan built in the countries of the European Union that aims to facilitate academic mobility of students and teachers between such states. This program was created in 1987 and its acronym is derived from the words European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. This acronym was created in honor of Erasmo of Rotterdam. The complete program is available to all students in higher education as well as those who are to perform labor practices, regardless the degree and its duration. The program is now present in over 2,000 academic institutions in 33 countries, but Spain is the country with greater mobility of students between all members. During the course 2013/2014, 39,249 students were studying abroad thanks to the scholarship, of which around 33,500 were students pursuing their studies, while the rest were students doing labor practices. The requirements for Erasmus are very few, because in Spain it is only necessary to have passed the first course of the degree and certificate the language level to aspire to the scholarship. But the experience of being Erasmus is more than study away from your home university during a year. For many people it provides the opportunity to know countries that previously did not know discover completely different cultures, so Erasmus provides a number of socio-cultural benefits that can hardly provide any other kind of activity. Therefore, during the development of project we will try to mix the two preceding paragraphs, mixing all the important figures that explain how the Erasmus program works with data that are more abstract and are more difficult to measure, but that certainly are very important when deciding whether the experience is profitable or not.
