El servicio de taxi: análisis de su rentabilidad en la ciudad de Santander

Abstract

RESUMEN: Partiendo de la relevancia del servicio de taxi para la sociedad, la primera parte de este estudio tratará de explicar la estructura organizativa de este sector, en particular el papel que desempeña la regulación en el mismo y las formas que adopta: restricción del número de operadores, regulación de la calidad y seguridad, y regulación de precios mediante la imposición de tarifas. A continuación, a partir de una revisión de la literatura sobre el tema, se expondrán los argumentos utilizados comúnmente a favor y en contra de la regulación, en especial en lo referente a la limitación del número de operadores. Además, se comentará el caso de UBER como ejemplo de medio de transporte colaborativo y su impacto en la sociedad. La segunda parte del trabajo se centra en el caso concreto de la ciudad de Santander. En primer lugar, se llevará a cabo una breve descripción de las características y de la estructura del sector, comentándose el origen del taxi en la ciudad, la evolución del número de licencias y de su precio con el paso del tiempo, así como las asociaciones de taxistas que existen actualmente en la ciudad. Posteriormente, se detallarán los rasgos más significativos de la oferta y de la demanda, y se efectuará un análisis de rentabilidad mediante una estimación de costes e ingresos anuales. Por último, se relacionará el precio de traspaso de una licencia con el flujo de beneficios futuros.

ABSTRACT: Based on the importance of the taxi service in society, the first part of this study will try to explain the organizational structure of the sector, especially the role of regulation on it and the forms it takes: restricting the number of taxi operators, quality control and safety, and price regulation by fares. Afterwards, from a literature review about the theme, the arguments used in general in favour and against the regulation will be explained, especially concerning the limitation of the number of taxi operators. Furthermore, the case of UBER will be discussed as an example of collaborative transport and the impact of it on society. The second part of this study focus on the specific case of the city of Santander. At first, a description of the characteristics and structure of the sector will be executed, mentioning the origin of taxi in the city, the evolution of licences number and their price, as well as the associations that exists nowadays in the city. Subsequently, will be described the most significant features of supply and demand, and a profitability analysis was carried out by estimating costs and annual incomes. Finally, licence transfer price will be connected with the expected profits flow.
