El centro histórico de Santander. Desarrollo urbano de un conjunto patrimonial desaparecido

Abstract

RESUMEN: Se elaborará una síntesis historiográfica de todos los trabajos producidos hasta la fecha concernientes a la historia del urbanismo y la arquitectura del núcleo de población primigenio de la actual ciudad de Santander, desaparecido en su mayor parte en el incendio de febrero de 1941. A partir de estos trabajos y del diverso patrimonio documental (imágenes, planos, etc.) se obtendrá una visión global del desarrollo de este área, que configuró un conjunto patrimonial de gran relevancia de la capital cántabra, hoy parcialmente perdido. La presentación del trabajo estará compuesta por un discurso cronológico de amplio rango temporal (Antigüedad-mediados siglo XX) en el que se realizarán descripciones tanto del espacio urbano y sus transformaciones como de las estructuras arquitectónicas desaparecidas de mayor interés, insertándolo en el marco de las transformaciones urbanas de la cornisa cantábrica. Esto se verá acompañado de nuevas planimetrías creadas expresamente para este trabajo en base al material histórico disponible. Finalmente, se plantearán futuras líneas de investigación centradas en el patrimonio del centro histórico de Santander.

ABSTRACT: A historiographical synthesis from all the works produced concerning the history of urban planning and architecture of the original nucleus of the city of Santander, disappeared for the most part in the fire of February 1941, will be developed. Based on those works and diverse documentary heritage (photographs, drawings, etc.), an overview of this area, which set up a heritage of great relevance of the Cantabrian capital, today partially lost, will be produced. The presentation of the work will consist of a chronological dissertation of wide time range (Antiquity-20th century) in which there will be descriptions of urban space and its transformations as well as missing architectural structures of interest, by inserting it into the framework of the urban transformations of the Cantabrian coast. This will be accompanied by new maps created expressly for this work on the basis of the available historical material. Finally, future research lines focused on the historical heritage of Santander will be raised.
