Hábitos sexuales y consumo de alcohol en una población universitaria española

Abstract

Introducción: En nuestro país hay un alto porcentaje de jóvenes que consume alcohol. Algunos estudios han relacionado este consumo con los estilos de vida sexual en este grupo de edad. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la relación entre hábitos sexuales y consumo de alcohol en estudiantes universitarios. Diseño: estudio transversal utilizando los datos obtenidos mediante la primera encuesta del proyecto uniHcos. Análisis estadístico: como medida de asociación se utiliza la OR y su IC al 95% ajustada por edad y sexo mediante regresión logística. Resultados: Entre los resultados más importantes, encontramos un mayor riesgo de ITS en aquellos con conductas de riesgo (consumo regular, binge drinking, AUDIT >7, inicio precoz de consumo) y un pobre uso de preservativo con pareja estable, también en pareja esporádica con consumo de riesgo (AUDIT >8, consumo regular). Además, la edad de inicio precoz de relaciones sexuales se ha asociado con la mayoría de los factores de riesgo de consumo, (inicio precoz, binge drinking, AUDIT >7, consumo regular). Conclusiones: Estos resultados plantean la necesidad de incorporar nuevas estrategias preventivas sobre el consumo de alcohol y concienciar sobre el uso de preservativo en universitarios y adolescentes españoles para evitar consecuencias en su salud posterior.

Introduction: In Spain, there is a high percentage of young adults that consume alcohol. Some studies have linked this population’s consumption to their sexual behaviour. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between sexual behaviour and alcohol consumption in Spanish college students. Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data obtained by the first inquiry from uniHcos project. Data Analysis: OR was used as measure of association, as well as its 95% CI adjusted by age and sex by means of logistic regression. Results: We found a higher risk of STDs in those students with high risk consumption (regular use, binge drinking, AUDIT >7, early consumption) and a poor use of condom with steady partners, also with sporadic partners in those who engaged in risky consumption (AUDIT >8, regular use). Moreover, early sexual initiation has been associated with most risk factors (early alcohol initiation, binge drinking, AUDIT >7, regular use). Conclusions: These results raise the need of incorporating new preventive strategies regarding alcohol consumption and awareness of condom use in Spanish college students and adolescents in order to avoid subsequent health consequences.
