Incendios forestales y gestión del fuego en Cantabria

Abstract

RESUMEN: Cantabria es una de las regiones más afectadas por los incendios forestales en España, a escala regional estos sucesos son uno de los problemas que más preocupan a la Administración forestal, sin embargo y a pesar de los esfuerzos realizados, los datos estadísticos nos muestran que la situación, lejos de mejorar, es cada vez más preocupante. Con el objetivo de valorar los logros y déficits de la gestión del fuego en Cantabria, esta tesis se adentra en el conocimiento de los fuegos regionales desde diversos enfoques -presencia histórica del fuego en la región; evolución de la gestión de los incendios en España, y en Cantabria, desde la puesta en marcha de la Estadística de Incendios Forestales hasta la actualidad y valoración de sus efectos; análisis de los datos regionales y constatación de las características y particularidades de los fuegos en Cantabria tanto desde un punto de vista espacial como temporal y, finalmente, identificación de posibles variantes de incendio a partir del tipo de cubierta afectada y de su tamaño.

ABSTRACT: Cantabria is one of the Spanish regions worst touched by wildfires and, at the regional level, these events cause the greatest concern to forest Administration. However, despite the efforts undertaken, the statistics show that the situation, far from improving, is increasingly worrying. In order to assess the successes and deficiencies of the management of fire in Cantabria, this thesis explores the knowledge of regional fires combining different approaches - evidence of fire in the region throughout history; evolution of fire management in Spain, and in Cantabria, since the implementation of Forest Fire Statistics until today and assessment of its effects; regional data analysis and definition of the characteristics and peculiarities of fires in Cantabria from both spatial and temporal points of view and, finally, identification of possible fire variants depending on the type of vegetation cover burned by them and on their size-.
