Gestión medioambiental empresarial aplicada al puerto de Gijón

Abstract

RESUMEN: Dada la magnitud de los impactos que ha tenido la actividad de las organizaciones sobre el medioambiente, aparece la necesidad por parte de éstas de llevar a cabo una buena gestión medioambiental, con el fin de minimizarlos todo lo posible. El objetivo de este trabajo es realizar un acercamiento a la gestión medioambiental y una valoración de la gestión medioambiental del Puerto de Gijón. En primer lugar, se explicarán todas las razones que han llevado al ser humano a tener en cuenta el medioambiente en el desarrollo de su actividad, así como a la necesidad de un Sistema de Gestión Medioambiental en las organizaciones. Además, se hará una primera aproximación a los Sistemas de Gestión Medioambiental más conocidos, la ISO norma14001 y el Reglamento Europeo EMAS. En los siguientes capítulos, se tratarán con más profundidad tanto la norma ISO 14001 y el Reglamento Europeo EMAS, con sus respectivas características, así como las diferencias que existen entre ambos Sistemas de Gestión Medioambiental. Otro elemento de gran importancia dentro de la gestión medioambiental, son las Memorias de Sostenibilidad, la herramienta a través de la cual una organización comunica a todos sus grupos de interés con transparencia la forma en la que desarrolla su actividad y su compromiso con la sociedad y el medioambiente. Éstas, son de elaboración obligatoria para cada uno de los Puertos del Estado, como aparece en la Ley 33/2010 de Puertos. Dentro de este capítulo, también se hablará sobre GRI (Global Reporting Iniciative), una organización sin ánimo de lucro cuya finalidad es que todas las organizaciones elaboren una Memoria de Sostenibilidad, ofreciéndoles unas pautas sobre cómo elaborarla. Otra herramienta vital para una buena gestión empresarial, es el Cuadro de Mando Integral, que divide a la organización en cuatro perspectivas: financiera, del cliente, del proceso interno, y de crecimiento y desarrollo. Dentro de cada una de éstas, se fijan objetivos, y a través de indicadores se mide en qué medida se alcanzan. A continuación, se analizarán algunos de estos indicadores, profundizando en los medioambientales más significativos, con el fin de valorar la gestión medioambiental de la Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón. También se hablará sobre el eco-etiquetado, el instrumento a través del cual las organizaciones muestran su compromiso con el medioambiente. Este compromiso se refleja en una etiqueta que permite identificar aquellos productos que tienen menor impacto sobre el medioambiente. Por último, se tratará la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa, los distintos tipos de responsabilidades, así como la RSC de la Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón con sus distintas herramientas.

ABSTRACT: Due to the impacts of the environmental organizational activities, it is necessary for these organizations to practise a good environmental management to minimize these possible impacts. The objective of the work is to approach and assess the environmental management system of the Port of Gijón. First of all, all the reasons that have taken the human being to consider this, will be explained, as well as the necessity of an Environmental Management System in the organizations. In addition, a first approximation will be carried out with the recognized Environmental Management Systems, the ISO rule 14001 and the EMAS European Regulation. In the following chapters Rule ISO 14001 and the EMAS European Rule with their characteristics and difference, will be treated with more profoundness. Another great important element within the environmental management is the Sustainability Memories, the tool by which all groups communicate with transparency how they are developing their activity and their compromise with society and environment. These Memories are of obliged elaboration in each of the State Ports, as it appears in Law 33/2010 of Ports. In this chapter, GRI (Global Reporting Iniciative), a nonprofit organization, will also be discussed, whose objective is that all the organizations draw up a Sustainability Memory, offering them the guidelines of their elaboration. Another vital tool for a good environmental management is The Balanced Scorecard, which divides the organization in four perspectives: financial, client, internal process and growth and development. Goals will be set in each of them, being measured by indicators. Next, Some of these indicators will be analyzed , especially the important environmental ones, with the aim of valuing the environmental management of the Port Authority of Gijón. Also, the eco label, an instrument by which the organizations show their groups of interest their compromise with the environment, will also be undertaken. This compromise is reflected on a label that permits the identification of those products that have less impact on environment. Finally, the Social Responsibility Corporation, the different kinds of responsibilities, will be treated, as well as the RSC of the Port Authority of Gijón with its different tools.
