La conservación del patrimonio en Santillana del Mar en el primer tercio del siglo XX

Abstract

RESUMEN: En las primeras décadas del siglo XX asistimos al proceso de “patrimonialización” del conjunto monumental de la villa de Santillana del Mar. La villa vivió un “renacimiento señorial” con el asentamiento de numerosos élites que promovieron una serie de obras de restauración en palacios, casonas y en la Colegiata de Santa Juliana además de mejoras urbanísticas y actividades culturales. El objetivo de esta investigación es el análisis de las iniciativas de salvaguarda del patrimonio monumental y la musealización del conjunto histórico, así como la labor de difusión llevada a cabo por instituciones oficiales y figuras locales, que convirtieron a Santillana en el referente turístico-cultural de la región, ocupando un destacado papel en el incipiente turismo cultural español.

ABSTRACT: During the first decades of the XX century the process of “patrimonialization” of the historic buildings and monuments in the village of Santillana del Mar began. The village experienced a cultural revival with the settling of large numbers of the elite classes that promoted restoration work in palaces, houses and the Collegiate church of Santa Juliana, in addition to urban improvements and cultural activities. The objective of this investigation is the analysis of the initiative to safeguard monumental heritage of the historical ensemble, also the promotion work undertaken by institutions and local figures that transformed Santillana in to model of cultural tourism in the region, occupying an important position in this emerging cultural field in Spain.
