Los enterramientos neandertales en Eurasia: una comparación con los homo sapiens arcaicos

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este trabajo trataremos el tema de los comportamientos funerarios Neandertales, el cual ha recibido una importante atención en las últimas décadas y ha desempeñado un papel central en la exploración de las similitudes y diferencias entre los Neandertales y los humanos anatómicamente modernos tempranos. Estos comportamientos son característicos dela zona euroasiática, desde Francia hasta Oriente Medio, y durante el Paleolítico Medio. La presencia de los Neandertales se extiende aproximadamente unos 200.000 años, entre 250.000 y 30.000, a caballo entre el Pleistoceno medio y el superior. La mayoría de los prehistoriadores aceptan que algunos Neandertales recibieron un entierro intencionado después de la muerte, y que tales entierros no parecen haber incluido un ajuar o cualquier otra forma de ornamentación visible en el registro arqueológico, pero si se incluyen tratamientos de los muertos alternativos como la descarnación o el canibalismo. Esto como veremos no se puede generalizar ya que hay evidencias de lo contrario. En este trabajo presentaremos en primer lugar, un breve retrato de los Neandertales y su comportamiento para mostrar sus diferencias físicas en cuanto al Homo sapiens. En segundo lugar, se profundiza en el comportamiento funerario y las diferentes formas en la que los Neandertales realizaban los enterramientos, en los cuales hay evidencias de intencionalidad. A continuación, realizaremos una comparación de los enterramientos Neandertales con los enterramientos de Homo sapiens arcaicos para mostrar las evidencias de la intencionalidad ante el tratamiento de la muerte. Y por último, la complejidad de las creencias y lo que este hecho desencadenó, la presencia del ritual y como a través de ellos trataron la muerte y los cadáveres. La conclusión que se extrae los Neandertales eran más parecidos a nosotros de lo que creemos.

ABSTRACT: This study is based on the Neanderthals funeral behaviors, which has received an important attention over the last decades and it has performed a central function in the exploration of similitude and differences between Neanderthal and anatomically early modern humans. This is distinctive in the Eurasia region, from France to Middle East, and during the Middle Paleolithic the Neanderthal presence is approximant 200.000 years, between 250.000 and 30.000, in halfway between the Middle Pleistocene and the Late Pleistocene. The most part of prehistorian accept that some Neanderthal received an intentional buried after their dead, but these burials do not seem to have included grave goods or any kind of adornment visible in the archaeological record, something as we will see it cannot generalize because there are evidences to the contrary. This study we will present firstly, a short portrait about Neanderthal and their behavior in order to show their physical differences with the Homo sapiens. Secondly, it will deep in the burial practices and the different ways that Neanderthal made burials, in which there are evidences of intentionality. Following, we will make a comparison with Neanderthal burials and archaic Homo sapiens burials in order to show the intentionality evidences in the death process. At last, the complexity of believes and that this fact triggered, the presence of ritual and how through of them they processed the death and the corpses. In conclusion the Neanderthal looked like to us more than we believe.
