Sustainable building refurbishment: undertaking the sustainable refurbishment planning & pre-design project brief development

Abstract

This report aims to clarify the current situation of refurbishment in comparison with new build, to encourage its implementation. An initial sustainability study is performed to determine the opportunities that refurbishment brings to the building stock market situation. A further research in refurbishment is performed,to determine possible problems and solutions. After that,the refurbishment planning process is studied, and risks and management processes to undertake evaluated; there the need of a project iD,itial information brief in the pre-design phase is stated. Conclusively, a building check list is developed and implemented in a case study, to work asan information brief, anda sustainable solution catalogue of possible options is completed.
