Mercado de trabajo e igualdad entre hombres y mujeres: reconciliando trabajo y tareas del hogar en Europa

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la relación entre el mercado de trabajo y la igualdad de género, centrándose en cómo hombres y mujeres en Europa logran conciliar el empleo remunerado con el trabajo no remunerado en el hogar. La investigación parte de un marco teórico que revisa la literatura existente sobre las desigualdades de género en el mercado laboral y las diferentes teorías económicas sobre la distribución del tiempo entre estos diferentes ámbitos de nuestra vida. El trabajo incluye un análisis de la muestra a partir de datos de la Encuesta Europea de Condiciones de Trabajo (EWCS). En primer lugar, se presenta un análisis descriptivo que muestra las diferencias entre hombres y mujeres en el tiempo dedicado a las tareas domésticas y al cuidado de los hijos según distintas variables como el tipo de ocupación, la educación o la edad. Posteriormente, se realiza un análisis econométrico mediante diferentes modelos de regresión según la variable de interés a estudiar, que permiten identificar el impacto de factores como ocupar un alto cargo, trabajar a jornada completa, la edad, el estado civil o el país de residencia sobre el tiempo dedicado al trabajo no remunerado. Los resultados reflejan que las mujeres continúan soportando una mayor carga de trabajo doméstico y de cuidados, incluso cuando ocupan puestos de alta responsabilidad o trabajan a jornada completa. Los hombres, en cambio, dedican menos tiempo a estas tareas, aunque se observan diferencias según el tipo de ocupación. Por último, el trabajo concluye señalando la persistencia de estas desigualdades y la necesidad de seguir desarrollando políticas activas de conciliación, para avanzar hacia una mayor igualdad de género en Europa.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship between the labour market and gender equality, focusing on how men and women in Europe manage to reconcile paid employment with unpaid work at home. The research is based on a theoretical framework that reviews the existing literature on gender inequalities in the labour market and the different economic theories on the distribution of time between these different areas of our lives. The paper includes an analysis of the sample using data from the European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS). First, a descriptive analysis is presented showing the differences between men and women in the time spent on housework and childcare according to different variables such as type of occupation, education or age. Subsequently, an econometric analysis is carried out using different regression models according to the variable of interest to be studied, which allow us to identify the impact of factors such as holding a high position, working full-time, age, marital status or country of residence on the time devoted to unpaid work. The results show that women continue to bear a heavier burden of domestic and care work, even when they hold positions of high responsibility or work full-time. Men, on the other hand, spend less time on these tasks, although there are differences according to the type of occupation. Finally, the study concludes by pointing out the persistence of these inequalities and the need to continue developing active reconciliation policies, in order to move towards greater gender equality in Europe.
