La integración de los migrantes en las ciudades de la Hispania romana: incolae y adlecti inter cives

Abstract

En el mundo romano, la figura del extranjero era compleja y variada. A diferencia de la concepción moderna, se consideraban forasteros a quienes sobrepasaban los límites de su propia civitas o patria local, en muchas ocasiones para establecerse en otra ciudad. Estos residentes, llamados incolae, aunque fueran ciudadanos romanos o latinos, no gozaban en su ciudad de residencia de los mismos derechos que tenían en su civitas de origen. Por esta razón, algunos intentaron obtener la ciudadanía local, pasando a ser ciudadanos de pleno derecho (adlecti inter cives), sin renunciar por ello a su ciudadanía originaria. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar las relaciones intercomunitarias, los mecanismos de integración y la participación de estos incolae o adlecti inter cives en la vida cívica de las civitates de la Hispania romana durante el Alto Imperio, empleando especialmente las fuentes epigráficas

In the Roman world, the concept of the foreigner was complex and varied. Unlike the modern conception, anyone who crossed the boundaries of their own civitas or local homeland was considered a foreigner, often to settle in another city. These residents, known as incolae, although they might be Roman citizens, did not enjoy the same civic rights in their city of residence as they did in their city of origin. For this reason, some sought to acquire local citizenship, becoming full citizens (adlecti inter cives) without renouncing their original citizenship. The aim of this study is to analyze the intercommunity relations, integration mechanisms, and the participation of these figures in the civic life of the civitates of Roman Hispania during the High Empire, with a particular focus on epigraphic sources
