| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most prevalent
chronic diseases worldwide and represents a significant public health issue due
to its associated complications, particularly those of cardiovascular origin. Given
its progressive and multisystemic nature, the proper management of
cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs) in patients with T2DM is essential to
prevent major adverse events and improve clinical outcomes.
Objectives: To assess the level of control of various CVRFs—arterial
hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and obesity—in patients with
diabetes mellitus, and to determine the extent to which clinical guidelines are
being followed to prevent or reduce mortality associated with this condition.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving a sample of patients
diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, assigned to a single physician’s patient panel
at the Isabel II Health Center during the year 2024.
Results: A total of 104 patients were included, with a mean age of 71.53 ±
13.47 years. Lipid values were as follows: total cholesterol (TC) 156.78 ± 45.45
mg/dL, LDL cholesterol 85.46 ± 42.82 mg/dL, and HDL cholesterol 49.95 ±
14.27 mg/dL. The overall rate of adequate lipid control was 41.2%. The mean
systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 148.88 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure
(DBP) was 77.56 mmHg; only 29.5% of patients achieved good blood pressure
control. There was a high prevalence of obesity, with a mean body mass index
(BMI) of 29.47 kg/m².
Conclusions: There is insufficient control of cardiovascular risk factors in
diabetic patients monitored in primary care. The lack of adherence to clinical
guidelines remains a significant issue in clinical practice, highlighting the need
to implement strategies aimed at achieving recommended targets due to the
high risk in this patient population. | es_ES |
