Resumen/Abstract
This chapter explores the intricate process of mediation and negotiation between the central royal authority and local administrations within the Spanish Monarchy, a process crucial for restoring allegiance and obedience to the Crown, especially in border regions facing contentious issues. Focusing on the dynamic relationship between Guipúzcoa and the Spanish Monarchy during the tenure of the Count-Duke of Olivares, this study examines both formal and informal scenarios of negotiation. It scrutinizes the roles of various mediators herein, especially those of the local 'Corregidor' and the nuncio, as well as their influential patronage networks, which facilitated consensus-building in the Basque Lands during this era.
