Resumen/Abstract
In order to design optical fibre preforms, sophisticated methods can be used taking into consideration tolerances in the fabrication processes. However, these mentiones methods are “cold” from the point of view of the easy of interrelation of the main important parameters of the preform, and complex numerical calculations are necessary. A new easy and intuitive method is presented in this paper. Fundamental normalized parameters of the preforms such as index increase, doping concentrations, etc. and the most importantly, the optical fiber that will be obtained drawing the preform, in given conditions (mode size, cut-off wavelength, core diameter, effective index…) are interrelated. The developed method is based on the drawing of simple horizontal and vertical straight lines on a group of suitably assembled graphs which are obtained either theoretically or experimentally. The method has been checked with results obtained from preforms and optical fibers recently fabricated.
