Ceremonial y administración en el sistema segoviano de sitios reales durante el reinado de Felipe II

Abstract

Es bien sabido que Felipe II consumó la transición de una serie de sitios reales carentes de una naturaleza conjunta a una red integrada, articulada en un conjunto de palacios espacialmente distantes pero doctrinalmente unidos por ser polos del gobierno doméstico regio ampliado. Aunque los historiadores han solido diferenciar entre palacios representativos y destinados al descanso y la distracción, y es cierto que esos caracteres se aprecian al comparar el Alcázar y la Casa del Bosque, el estudio del sistema de sitios reales ubicados en la hoy provincia de Segovia en tiempo del rey prudente permite apreciar la existencia de una única pero múltiple funcionalidad palaciega. En ella, eran las circunstancias las que determinaban la prioridad del uso ceremonial, administrativo o lúdico, sujeto al carácter predominante o más continuo en cada una de las diferentes construcciones. El repaso de las fuentes ofrecido en este artículo pretende definir vías de investigación futuras.

It is well known that Philip II consummated the transition from a series of royal sites lacking a joint nature to an integrated network, articulated in palaces spatially distant but doctrinally united by their essence as poles of the extended royal domestic government. Although historians have tended to differentiate between representative palaces and those intended for rest and distraction, and it is true that these characteristics can be seen when comparing the Alcázar and the Casa del Bosque, the study of the system of royal sites located in what is now the province of Segovia in the time of Philip II allows us to appreciate the existence of a single but multiple palace function. In it, it was the circumstances that determined the priority of ceremonial, administrative or recreational use, subject to the predominant or more continuous character of each Palace. The review of the sources offered in this article aims to define ways for future research.
