Los porteros de Cadena. Límite y difusión del espacio palaciego

Abstract

Las "Etiquetas Reales" reservaban espacio para los porteros de cadena, criados de la Casa de Castilla que, si bien daban paso al zaguán de los Palacios situados en los Sitios Reales, carecían según ellas de atribuciones para autorizar el acceso a él. Pese a ello, doctrinalmente tenían gran importancia, dado que la cadena que manejaban era un hito de reproducción del espacio palaciego en un orden jurisdiccional, desde el que se extendían las funciones del "palatium" y, en sentido inverso, los súbditos accedían a la persona real. Entendido el espacio cortesano como una realidad territorial expandida a través del patio y la plaza aledaña más allá de los muros de palacio, materializaban el límite y la funcionalidad nacida en la sede física de permanencia del rey, polo carismático a partir del cual emanaba el sentido de todo un sistema político y administrativo, sobre todo, en los Sitios Reales.

Royal protocol reserved space for the chain porters, servants of the Household of Castile who, although they gave way to the palace hallway situated at the Royal Sites, were not empowered to authorise access to it. Despite this, doctrinally they were of great importance, given that the chain they handled was a landmark of reproduction of the palace space in a jurisdictional order, from which the functions of the palatium were extended and, in the opposite direction, the subjects gained access to the royal person. The courtly space, understood as a territorial reality expanded through the courtyard and the surrounding square beyond the palace walls, materialised the limit and the functionality borned in the physical seat of the king's permanence, a charismatic pole from which the meaning of an entire political and administrative system emanated, especially at the Royal Sites.
