Resumen/Abstract
ABSTRACT: This Practise Report about my external activities at the Diocesan Historial
Archive of Monte Corbán is the result of 120 hours of hard and satisfying work at this
regional institution, located in Cantabria.
Going through with the characteristic rethorical study skills and the archival
treatment, it helped me to achieve the main goals of this long term process: permanently
preserve the historical documentation produced by the Diócesis de Santander. And not
only, but also to collect, keep and serve each of the units to the society.
The functions carried out were the following: the custody of the transferred
documentation, retrieval of documents with historical value, normalized description of
the documentation (using the international standards ISAD (G) and the national
adaptation callen NEDA), conservation and preservation, restoration of degraded units,
broadcasting and permit the access to users and researchers.
Nevertheless, this experience will help us to realize that we should make
difference between the theory and the praxis.
Thanks to my external tutoress, Mrs. María Dolores Gutiérrez Callejo and my
TFG manager, Mr. Francisco Saulo Rodriguez Lajusticia, I have attained the
competencies and values outlined at the ‘Normativa del Trabajo de Fin de Grado de los
Grados de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras’.
Furthermore, being an historian and acting like a proper archivist involves a
great enrichment, professional such as personal.
With this job opportunity, every one shall apprehend to cultivate and improve a
totally civic, tolerant and respectful mind and behaviour, as well to appreciate our
ancient and recent past and its patrimony, because every sheet, every book, and every
documental unit rescued from the worse off place and precarious conditions is basic, is
vital because it contains a great amount of information which let us discover remarkable
issues about our history, origins, and even, our family, creating such a perfect way for a
proper cultural, historical, economic, social, anthropological, etc. investigation.
Quoting Rosa Mª Blasco Martínez and Virginia Mª Cuñat Ciscar, “los esfuerzos
por localizar y recuperar los libros antiguos nos permite disponer de materiales para
investigar y comprender la realidad”1. And that is, of course, the great true vision of our
walk of life.
