La desaparición y refuncionalización del patrimonio portuario-industrial de Santander

Abstract

El patrimonio portuario-industrial es uno de las formas más modernas de las diferentes especialidades del patrimonio. Su proximidad a nuestros tiempos hace a este patrimonio ser considerado como algo que no debe conservarse en su justa medida. Por ello, es importante remarcar el papel que tiene y su refuncionalización, término aplicado a la reutilidad de elementos del pasado. Con todo esto, nos situamos en el frente marítimo de Santander, el cual a lo largo de los años ha ido sufriendo diversas modificaciones, causando la desaparición de diversos elementos portuarios-industriales que presentaban un fuerte valor histórico-social. Otros casos también en el frente marítimo de Santander, aunque en menor medida, han sido reutilizados, evitando la desaparición de los mismos y alargando su vida útil. Esto también ha ocurrido en otras ciudades españolas que comentaremos a modo de ejemplos. Por tanto, en este trabajo traemos a la memoria el patrimonio portuario-industrial desaparecido en Santander y la refuncionalización de algunos elementos del mismo tipo. Además de comentar posibles acciones que se pudieron llevar a cabo antes que demoler y olvidar el rico patrimonio industrial que la ciudad tuvo.

The port-industrial heritage is one of the most modern forms of the different specialties of heritage. It´s proximity to our times makes this heritage often considered as something that does not need to be preserved to its full extent. Therefore, it is important to highlight its role and its refunctionalization, a term applied to the reuse of elements from the past. With all this, we find ourselves on the maritime front of Santander, which over the years has undergone various modifications, causing the disappearance of several maritime-industrial elements that had significant historical and social value. Other cases on the maritime front of Santander, although to a lesser extent, have been reused, preventing their disappearance and extending their useful life. This has also occurred in other Spanish cities, which we will discuss as examples. Therefore, in this work, we bring to memory the disappeared maritime-industrial heritage in Santander and the refunctionalization of some elements of the same type. Additionally, we will discuss possible actions that could have been taken before demolishing and forgetting the rich industrial heritage that the city once had.
