Fragmentos de pintura mural hallados en las termas de La Cueva (Camesa-Rebolledo, Cantabria)

Abstract

Sur le site de Camesa-Rebolledo (Cantabrie, Espagne), un bâtiment thermal a livré en 2015 un ensemble de peintures murales romaines. Bien que les fragments mis au jour soient peu nombreux, le type de composition générale peut être restitué et le style de décoration identifié. La décoration de la zone inférieure est une imitation de granit gris. La zone médiane est scandée de larges panneaux à fond blanc alternant avec des inter-panneaux étroits ornés de candélabres et de motifs végétaux. Cete ensemble offre enfin l’intérêt d’être l’une des rares attestations de peinture murale romaine dans la région nord de la péninsule Ibérique.

In the thermal building of the archaeological site of Camesa-Rebolledo (Cantabria, Spain) a set of Roman wall paintings was found in 2015. Although the fragments are few in number, the general composition can be restored and the style of decoration identified. The decoration of the lower zone is an imitation of gray granite. The middle zone is marked by large panels with a white background alternating with narrow inter-panels adorned with candelabra and plant motifs. This group offers the interest of being one of the rare testimonies of Roman mural painting in the northern region of the Iberian Peninsula.
