Regresión no paramétrica: análisis de la evolución en el rendimiento de ajedrecistas a lo largo de su vida deportiva

Abstract

El ajedrez es un deporte muy peculiar, por la importancia capital de las habilidades cognitivas en su desempeño. En este trabajo, se pretende analizar la importancia relativa que tienen el aspecto físico y el aspecto mental en este deporte, así como describir el proceso de evolución de los jóvenes que acaban llegando a la élite del mismo. Además, se busca explicación a la brecha de nivel observada entre hombres y mujeres. Con este fin, se hace uso de técnicas de regresión no paramétrica por núcleos, así como cross validation y bootstrap para optimizar la regresión y estimar su error.

Chess is a very distinctive sport, due to the important role the cognitive abilities play in it. In this work, the aim is to analyse the relative importance of the physical and mental aspects in this sport and to describe the developmental process of young players who eventually reach the elite level. Moreover, an explanation for the observed level gap between men and women is sought. To this goal, kernel-based non-parametric regression techniques are employed, along with cross-validation and bootstrapping to optimize the regression and estimate its error.
