Torres Bajomedievales en los valles de Liébana, Nansa y Saja-Besaya

Abstract

Las torres bajomedievales se han convertido en unos de los elementos patrimoniales más importantes para los valles de Liébana, Nansa, Saja y Besaya. La mayoría de estas torres y casas-fuertes tienen su origen en los siglos XIV y XV y eran edificios civiles que estaban construidos con materiales más resistentes y duraderos que el resto de las estructuras civiles. Fueron construidas por las familias y señoríos que se extendieron durante los siglos bajomedievales por los valles estudiados en este trabajo, entre los cuales destacan el Señorío de la Vega, la Casa de los Velasco, la Casa de los Estrada, el linaje de los Niño, la Casa de los Velarde o la Casa de Barreda. Todas estas familias buscaron suplir una serie de necesidades con la construcción de estas torres. La mayoría tenían una función residencial, pero también podían tener una función defensiva, militar, administrativa, económica o estratégica

The late medieval towers have become one of the most important heritage elements for the valleys of Liébana, Nansa, Saja and Besaya. Most of these towers and fortified houses date back to the 14th and 15th centuries and were civil buildings constructed with more resistant and durable materials than other civil structures. They were built by the families and lordships that spread throughout the valleys studied in this work during the late medieval centuries, among which the Lordship of Vega, the House of Velasco, the House of Estrada, the Niño lineage, the House of Velarde, and the House of Barreda stand out. All these families sought to meet a series of needs with the construction of these towers. Most had a residential function, but they could also serve defensive, military, administrative, economic, or strategic purposes
