Este trabajo tiene como objetivo examinar históricamente la problemática institución de la prostitución sagrada en la Antigüedad a través de las fuentes clásicas y de la literatura moderna, haciendo un recorrido por los diferentes territorios del Próximo Oriente, la cuenca Mediterránea y deteniéndose especialmente en el ámbito griego-romano. Abordaremos los cultos a diferentes divinidades femeninas como la Isthar oriental o la Afrodita griega, todas ellas hipostasis de la Diosa Madre originaria, vinculadas a la fertilidad, para analizar su vínculo con diferentes tipos y praxis de prostitución.
Mostraremos cómo la prostitución sagrada ha sido la protagonista de un amplio debate historiográfico desde los años ochenta del siglo pasado hasta los estudios más recientes, que todavía no alcanzan una total sintonía en reconocer la existencia de estos rituales por cuanto concierne el ámbito griego y en particular la polis de Corinto.
The aim of this TFG is to examine historically the problematic institution of sacred prostitution in Antiquity through classical sources and modern historiographic literature, covering the different territories of the Near East and the Mediterranean basin, with a special focus on the Greek-Roman sphere. We will deal with the cults of different female divinities such as the Eastern Isthar or the Greek Aphrodite, all of them hypostases of the original Mother Goddess and associated with fertility, in order to analyze their link with different types and practices of prostitution.
We will show how sacred prostitution has been the protagonist of a wide historiographical debate from the eighties of the last century to the most recent studies, which still do not reach a total agreement in recognizing the existence of these rituals as regards the Greek sphere and in particularly the polis of Corinth.
