Niños y niñas en la política romana (44 A.C. - 14 D.C.): la Domus Augusta

Abstract

El objetivo de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado (TFG) es estudiar el uso político de niños y niñas en el turbulento período del final de la República romana, desde el asesinato de César en el 44 a.C hasta la muerte de Octavio Augusto, en el año 14 d.C, cuando se inicia el Imperio y comienza la primera dinastía romana, los Julio-Claudios. Los niños/as presentes en este análisis pertenecen a las familias de César, Marco Antonio (tanto con sus esposas romanas como con la reina Cleopatra) y los pertenecientes a la casa de Augusto, albergando un número de más de diez descendientes de Octavia, Fulvia, Cleopatra, Livia y Julia, hija de Augusto. Esta descendencia supondrá la continuidad del Imperio romano mediante una política matrimonial estratégica. El tema apenas ha sido abordado, con lo que este TFG aporta una aproximación innovadora al estudio de la política del final de la República y la creación del Imperio romano.

The aim of this Final Degree Project is to study the political use of children in the turbulent period at the end of the Roman Republic, from the assasination of Caesar in 44 BC to the death of Octavian Augustus in 14 AD, when the empire and the first Roman dynasty, the Julio-Claudians, began. The children presented in this analysis belong to the families of Caesar, Mark Antony (both with his Roman wives and Queen Cleopatra) and those belonging to the house of Augustus, making up a number of more than ten descendants of Octavia, Fulvia, Cleopatra, Livia and Julia, Augustus’ daughter. This offspring will signify the continuity of the Roman Empire by means of a strategic marriage policy. The subject has barely been discussed before, hence this Final Degree Project provides an innovative approach to the study of politics in the Late Roman Republic and the creation of the Roman Empire.
