Comercio y comerciantes en el norte de Castilla durante el siglo XVIII

Abstract

El presente Trabajo de Fin de Grado aborda las características del comercio en la región septentrional, litoral, de la Corona de Castilla a lo largo del siglo XVIII, con el objeto de estudiar aquellas personas que participan de este comercio en clave socioeconómica y con perspectiva de género, según su consideración de comerciantes al por menor, al por mayor o contrabandistas. También se analizan las principales mercancías comercializadas por estos, desde productos de primera necesidad, manufacturas, bienes suntuarios y materias primas, todo lo anterior en el marco del nuevo desarrollo de las rutas marítimas que, desde el Norte, se abrieron hacia América a partir de 1728 y se revitalizaron hacia el resto de Europa, con una consecuente evolución económica favorable a las villas marítimas del Cantábrico y las rutas terrestres hacia el mercado madrileño mediante un sistema de ferias, mercados y la construcción de infraestructuras viarias.

The present Degree’s Final Project approaches the features of commerce in the north, littoral, region of the Castilian crown throughout 18th century, with the objective of studying those people who participated in this commerce according to socioeconomic origin and gender perspective, depending on their regard as retailers, wholesalers or smugglers, simultaneously analysing the main wares commercialised by them, from first need products to manufactures, luxury goods and primary commodities, all of this within the framework of the new development of the maritime routes that, from the North, opened toward America since 1728 and revitalized to the rest of Europe, with a consequent positive economic evolution to the Cantabrian sea cities and to the land routes directed towards Madrid through a system of fairs, markets and the building of road infrastructures.
