Operación Kindertransport. La evacuación a Gran Bretaña de niños judíos amenazados por el nazismo

Abstract

La ayuda brindada por las democracias a la población civil amenazada por los totalitarismos en la Europa del siglo XX fue variada, pero en su mayoría escasa. Entre 1938 y mayo de 1940 Gran Bretaña organizó la acogida de 10.000 niños judíos desde Praga, Polonia y Checoslovaquia, pero esencialmente Alemania durante el régimen nazi. En un contexto en el que el resto de los países parecía quedarse de brazos cruzados, Gran Bretaña se erigió como el gran salvador. En el presente trabajo se profundiza en la organización, articulación y desarrollo del kindertransport (Alemania-Gran Bretaña), así como en el ulterior asentamiento de los niños en territorio británico y su experiencia, trauma y reconstrucción memorialística posterior.

The aid provided by the democracies to the civilian population threatened by totalitarianism in 20th century Europe was varied, but mostly scarce. Between 1938 and May 1940, Great Britain organized the reception of 10,000 Jewish children from Prague, Poland and Czechoslovakia, but essentially Germany during the Nazi regime. In a context in which the rest of the countries seemed to stand idly by, Great Britain emerged as the great savior. In the present work, the organization, articulation and development of the kindertransport (Germany-Britain), as well as the subsequent settlement of the children in British territory and their experience, trauma and memorial reconstruction are examined in depth.
