Sembrando el cambio. Wangari y los árboles de la paz, para el desarrollo de una ciudadanía defensora de la vida

Abstract

Es imposible no pensar que la vida del ser humano, la vida de muchas especies de animales, bosques y plantas, ríos y océanos, están en grave peligro, debido al deterioro del estado de salud en el que se encuentra el planeta Tierra. Parar este empeoramiento ambiental y sus consecuencias, hace que sea fundamental y necesario la implicación de toda la sociedad y toda la comunidad; es por eso, que la educación para el despertar de la conciencia ecológica juega un papel importante, al aportar soluciones con las que poder revertir y frenar las consecuencias, puesto que los modos de vida de los seres humanos son la causa que nos han llevado al daño de nuestro hogar, nuestra casa, nuestro corazón y alma, el planeta Tierra, Gaia entera. Una de las grandes voces en defensa de los bosques y los ecosistemas, como principio vital, de lucha, transformación, resistencia y acción, es Wangari Muta Maathai, fundadora del Movimiento Cinturón Verde en Kenia, y premio Nobel de la Paz en 2004; que gracias a su total dedicación en la restauración de los bosques, consiguió proteger el medio ambiente y la democracia. El álbum ilustrado creado por Jeanette Winter sobre la vida de Wangari, la mujer árbol, la mujer valiente, la mujer de espíritu incansable y vitalista, la mujer que le devolvió la abundancia a la Tierra, nos aporta una de las miradas más profundas y bellas para educar en el despertar de la conciencia ecológica y el sentido de responsabilidad hacia la Tierra.

It is impossible not to think that human life, the life of many species of animals, forests and plants, rivers and oceans, are in serious danger, due to the deterioration of the state of health of planet Earth. Stopping this environmental deterioration and its consequences makes the commitment of the whole society and the whole community fundamental and essential; that is why Education for the Awakening of Ecological Awareness plays an important role, providing solutions with which to reverse and stop the consequences, since the ways of life of human beings are the cause that have led us to the damage of our home, our house, our heart and soul, the planet Earth, Gaia as a whole. One of the great voices in defence of forests and ecosystems, as a vital principle of struggle, transformation, resistance and action, is Wangari Muta Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement in Kenya, and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2004; thanks to her total dedication to forest restoration, she managed to protect the environment and democracy.
