The Coupled Mode Method is a semi-analytical method formulated in the frequency domain that has been successfully used for analyzing waveguides containing isotropic, anisotropic, or bianisotropic mediums. In this chapter, an overview of the application of this method to the analysis of rectangular waveguides containing isotropic chiral media is presented. In fact, two modifications dealing to the starting field expansions of the procedure: E and H or E and B are described. It is shown that the selection of E and B as primary fields, despite of requiring more analytical and computing work, is the optimal procedure of the coupled mode method for analyzing this kind of structure, because the solution fulfills the satisfaction of the boundary conditions over the perfect electric conductor walls and, as a result, delivers more accurate results.es_ES
