El Boletín de Comercio: una fuente para analizar la actividad comercial del puerto de Santander, 1881-1891

Abstract

El trabajo pretende analizar una pequeña parte de la abundante información cuantitativa disponible en el Boletín de Comercio publicado en la ciudad de Santander desde 1839 a 1916. Para ello, se ha examinado el flujo comercial efectuado por el puerto de Santander durante los meses de marzo, abril, mayo y junio de los años 1881 y 1891. En primer lugar, se expone la información relevante a la actividad comercial y social de la época. En segundo lugar, se presentan los resultados de entradas y salidas recopiladas de la sección marítima del boletín, observando los diferentes indicadores utilizados para configurar la base de datos y permitiendo analizar los diferentes destinos y orígenes de los barcos. Para finalizar, se indican las posibilidades de investigación que ofrece el Boletín de Comercio y la similitud con diversos proyectos europeos que analizan los flujos portuarios históricos.

This paper aims to analyze a small part of the information available in the “Boletín de Comercio”, examining the port flow for the months of March, April, May and June in the years 1881 and 1891. First, the information relevant to the commercial and social activity of the time is presented. Secondly, the results of entries and exits collected from the maritime section of the bulletin are presented, observing the different indicators used to configure the data base and allowing the analysis of the different destinations and origins of the ships. Finally, the research possibilities offered by the Boletín de Comercio and the similarity with various European projects that analyze historical port flows are indicated.
