Hermes Trismegisto. Orígenes de la corriente Hermética y desarrollo histórico posterior

Abstract

El Hermetismo nació en el Egipto ptolemaico y su figura fundadora, Hermes Trismegisto, El tres veces grande, surge como fruto de un sincretismo entre los dioses Hermes, de origen griego, y Thot, de origen egipcio. Así, a Hermes Trismegisto se le atribuirá la autoría de una serie de textos, los Hermetica, en los que estaría contenida una profunda sabiduría, y se originará un culto en torno a su figura legendaria, que oscila entre las categorías de divinidad y de profeta. Esta corriente filosófica no ha permanecido anclada y limitada a su manifestación original greco-egipcia, sino que a lo largo de la historia ha sido sometida a diferentes estudios e interpretaciones, teniendo un papel fundamental en el desarrollo del Esoterismo occidental.

Thus, Hermes Trismegistus was attributed the authorship of a series of texts, the Hermetica, which contained a profound wisdom, and a cult grew up around his legendary figure, which oscillated between the categories of divinity and prophet. This philosophical current has not remained anchored and limited to its original Greek-Egyptian manifestation, but has been subjected to different studies and interpretations throughout history, playing a fundamental role in the development of Western Esotericism.
