Líneas desde el frente. Los cronistas de Flandes a finales del XVI

Abstract

El estudio de las crónicas de Flandes que escribieron los militares del Rey Católico a finales del siglo XVI ofrece la oportunidad para indagar sobre la cultura política y moral que definió a toda una generación. Al mismo tiempo que permite confrontar si el ideal del soldado cristiano tenía una plasmación real en los campos de batalla y cómo ellos se sentían parte del proyecto hegemónico de la Monarquía Hispánica, en una época de transición en términos políticos. Además permite señalar los silencios y olvidos que contienen este tipo de fuentes.

The study of the chronicles of Flanders written by the soldiers of the Catholic King at the end of the 16th century offers the opportunity to investigate the political and moral culture that defined an entire generation. At the same time, it allows us to confront whether the ideal of the Christian soldier had a real embodiment on the battlefields and how they felt part of the hegemonic project of the Spanish Empire , in a time of transition in political terms. It also allows us to point out the silences and forgetfulness that this type of sources contain.
