Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal: características histopatológicas y tratamiento

Abstract

La enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal agrupa una serie de entidades en las cuales, por el efecto de varios factores, se desencadena una respuesta inflamatoria exacerbada que conlleva un daño a nivel histológico, responsable de las manifestaciones clínicas incapacitantes que se generan en los pacientes. El objetivo terapéutico hoy en día está dirigido a disminuir la frecuencia e intensidad de las crisis y a reducir la tasa de colectomías, ya que empeoran de manera importante su calidad de vida. Entre las múltiples estrategias de tratamiento se encuentran la original terapia antiinflamatoria y la cirugía, a la cual se le está uniendo e investigando, cada vez más, la terapia biológica como método de tratamiento más dirigido y con mejor control de la base inflamatoria. Conocer la opinión de los pacientes acerca de su sintomatología ayuda a elaborar un plan de acción que se ajuste a sus necesidades.

The inflammatory bowel disease includes different subtypes of disorders in which, because of multiple factors, an exacerbated inflammatory response leads to a significative histological damage, responsible for the disabling clinical manifestations generated in patients. Today, the main objective of the treatment is to reduce the frequency and intensity of the crises and, above all, try to reduce the rate of colectomies, as they significantly worsen the quality of life. The mainstay of treatment has always been anti- inflammatory drugs, immune-suppression, and surgery. However, in clinical practice, the biologic therapies are now being more used and studied as they can act through specific target reducing, in this way, the inflammatory activity. Getting to know the opinion of patients is of great importance to provide a greater individualization in treatment.
