La construcción de la imagen de un rey impulsivo: el reinado y la figura de Pedro I el “Cruel” a través de la historiografía

Abstract

El reinado de Pedro I el “Cruel” (1350-1369) se caracterizó por una serie de conflictos en torno a su figura que desembocaron en su asesinato a manos de su propio hermanastro, Enrique de Trastámara, quien había mantenido un conflicto con él desde casi los inicios del gobierno de Pedro. En este trabajo analizamos la figura de Pedro I, quien pasó a la historia como alguien despiadado e impulsivo y que cometió numerosos errores que le hicieron granjearse a un gran número de enemigos. Para ello, hemos recurrido tanto las fuentes de la época, como la de Pedro López de Ayala, como a los análisis y las posturas que otros historiadores más recientes han registrado en sus obras.

The reign of Pedro I the Cruel (1350-1369) was characterised by a series of conflicts surrounding him that led to his dead at the hands of his own half-brother, Henry of Trastámara, who had been in conflict with him from almost the beginning of Pedro's reign. In this work we analyse the figure of Pedro I, who went down in history as ruthless and impulsive and who made numerous mistakes that earned him a large number of enemies. To do so, we have drawn on both the sources of the period, such as that of Pedro López de Ayala, and the analyses and positions that recent historians have recorded in their works.
