Intervención de enfermería en la detección precoz y tratamiento de la depresión en niños y adolescentes

Abstract

RESUMEN: La depresión es un trastorno del estado de ánimo que afecta de manera negativa sobre la salud mental de las personas que la sufren, siendo muy limitante para el desarrollo normal de su vida. Las cifras están aumentando a gran velocidad en niños y adolescentes, siendo la prevalencia del 2,8% hasta los 13 años y del 5,6% entre los 13 y 18 años. Su origen es multicausal, sin embargo, existen factores de riesgo que han demostrado ser favorables para el desarrollo o mantenimiento de la misma. Es frecuente la comorbilidad con otros trastornos mentales o síntomas físicos, tratándose del principal factor de riesgo de suicidio entre los adolescentes. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión bibliográfica sobre el papel de enfermería en la depresión mayor en niños y adolescentes. Existen cuestionarios de cribado útiles para detectar de manera precoz los casos de depresión infanto-juvenil, siendo interesante su implantación en las consultas de enfermería de Atención Primaria. El tratamiento puede ser psicoterapéutico, farmacológico o ambos. La figura de la enfermera cuenta con intervenciones muy beneficiosas para el abordaje terapéutico, centradas en la promoción, mantenimiento y recuperación de la salud.

ABSTRACT: Depression is a mood disorder that negatively affects the mental health of people who suffer from it, being very limiting for the normal development of their lives. The numbers are rapidly increasing in children and adolescents, with a prevalence of 2.8% up to 13 years of age and 5.6% between 13 and 18 years of age. Its origin is multi-causal, however, there are risk factors that have been shown to be favourable for its development or maintenance. Comorbidity with other mental disorders or physical symptoms is usual, being the main risk factor for suicide among adolescents. The aim of this project is to carry out a bibliographic review on the nursing role in major depression in children and adolescents. There are useful screening questionnaires for early detection of cases of child and adolescent depression and it’s interesting including them in the Primary Care nursing consulting offices. Treatment can be psychotherapeutic, pharmacological, or both. Nurses have very beneficial interventions for therapeutic healing, focused on the promotion, maintenance and recovery of health.
