Los puertos deportivos son lugares diseñados para atracar y fondear embarcaciones deportivas o de recreo. España es un país que cuenta con un gran número de puertos de este tipo debido a sus 8.000 kilómetros de costa. Uno de ellos es el Puerto Sotogrande el cual es considerado uno de los principales puertos deportivos del país. La entrega de concesiones por parte del gobierno a organizaciones y asociaciones marítimas ha facilitado el desarrollo de marinas en las que las actividades náuticas y deportivas relacionadas con el uso de embarcaciones de recreo han creado sectores favorables para el crecimiento económico del turismo y el ocio. Con la finalidad de establecer si el Puerto Sotogrande cumple con las funciones para las que fue creado y si satisface las necesidades del sector, se realizó una investigación para conocer la longitud del litoral, el clima del mar, la infraestructura, el equipamiento, los servicios que presta, la actividad económica que en él se desarrolla además de un análisis de su entorno para determinar fortalezas, oportunidades, debilidades y amenazas. Se encontró que, aunque sus fortalezas superan con creces sus debilidades, la demanda de amarres para embarcaciones de esloras superiores a 30 metros es insuficiente, por lo que se recomienda reducir algunos puntos de amarres para esloras inferiores a 8 metros y realizar una redistribución de los atraques.
