Herencia mesopotámica en el judaísmo y el cristianismo

Abstract

Leyendo algunos relatos presentes en el Génesis, primer libro del Pentateuco, y en otros textos veterotestamentarios, nos encontramos con sucesos y personajes que presentan significativas similitudes con los que protagonizan las narraciones mitológicas de la civilización mesopotámica. Hoy en día la historiografía ha asumido que la religión de Israel sincretizó muchos elementos propios de la cultura del pueblo limítrofe con el que tuvo muchos contactos a lo largo de los siglos, y que varios mitologemas presentes en la Biblia se han desarrollado a partir de arquetipos narrativos que tienen su génesis en fuentes literarias próximo-orientales y que han dejado huellas profundas en otras religiones, como el cristianismo y el islam.

When we read some of the stories in Genesis, the first book of the Pentateuch, and in other Old Testament texts, we find events and characters with significant similarities to those in the mythological narratives of the Mesopotamian civilisation. Modern historiography has assumed that the religion of Israel took over many elements of the culture of the bordering people with whom it had many contacts over the centuries, and that several mythological themes in the Bible have been developed from narrative archetypes that have their origin in Near Eastern literary sources and have left deep traces in other religions, such as Christianity and islam.
